History of The Choice
I
2022 that provide various perspectives on what
it means to choose to lead today, for
tomorrow.
n 2019, ESCP Business School brought
together students, alumni, staff and
faculty to reimagine what it means to
be a European business school and to reconnect
with ESCP's heritage in celebration of the
school's 200-year anniversary. Our story starts
here.
It all started with a choice to align ESCP's brand
vision with the belief that in life, as in business,
everything starts with choices, and these
choices are what define us. Our choices are
the mark we leave on the world. In addition to
a new ad campaign, slogan and global strategy,
ESCP wanted to create a platform to showcase
the expertise of the entire ESCP community
and confront the many important choices that
current and future business leaders will make in
the years to come. That's when ESCP's media,
The Choice, was born.

Can indecision be
genetic? When struggling
over what to eat
for dinner every night,
I often wonder if this is
the case. While some
choices bear more
weight than others,
each one is a step
towards building the
life we want to live and
the world we want to
live in.
As editor of The Choice, I had the honour to
choose the articles for our first Year-in-Review.
A lot happened in 2022. For ESCP and for the
world. It was not easy to select the articles that
appear in the following pages, but I hope that
the ones you find here will provide some food
for thought as we face the opportunities and
challenges of a new year full of choices.

Why are we talking about
sustainability & talent?
Sustainability has become a key component
of corporate strategies as well as an important
factor in career decisions. According to Pew
Research, at least 40% of U.S. Millennials say
sustainability is a key element when choosing
to work for a company. But to attract and keep
these talents, businesses need to show that they
are truly committed to reach sustainable goals.

From the office floor to the political arena,
2022 was not short of challenges causing us to
question what it means to be a business leader
today.
All year long, ESCP's media, The Choice, gathered
experts from the community and beyond
to analyse trends, to challenge norms, and to
empower our readers to rethink the world of
business.
To celebrate our two-year anniversary last
week, we were excited to host our first ESCP
Live event and release The Choice Year-inReview
2022. Below you will find a recap of the
event dedicated to Sustainability & the Search
for Talent and a link to download a selection of
articles to provide some food for thought as we
face a new year full of choices.

What is a " sustainability mindset "
exactly?
Our speakers agree on the fact that new skills
and attitudes have to be developed by both
talents and companies. The most important
ones to be: continuously learning from science
and data, expanding one's attention span, and
embracing uncertainty. There is a need to pave
the way for a better future, with tools that do
not necessarily exist yet. Hence, learning how
to continuously adapt and educate oneself will
be key.
Is sustainability only a part of brand
attractiveness?
Companies that see sustainability as a way to
be attractive are at high risk. In a context where
resignation is common, there are great chances
that talents will quit a company as soon as they
discover that their employers are greenwashing.
Recruiting green must not be a branding
strategy but a real sustainable action.
