the shoes of a corporate
board member
With The Dream Waver Board Simulation, learn how corporate boards really work
Next comes the agenda packet, and preparing for a simulated
board meeting of a fictitious multinational company based
in France, Dream Weaver, with an agenda limited to a supply
chain crisis involving allegations of corruption and serious
worker mistreatment.
Having prepared with the agenda pack, learners hold a simulated
board meeting. They ask the questions and make the
comments that they think ought to be asked and made as
they try to make decisions.
What happens in a corporate boardroom nearly always stays
in the boardroom. That may be good for some purposes,
but it's bad for allowing incheterested outsiders to see how
boards work in practice. Tools that teach concepts of corporate
governance help a little, but if learners can't apply the
concepts in a real-world way to the workings of a corporate
board, then they won't really understand how boards work
in practice.
Professors David Chekroun and Drew Shagrin, with the support
of the KPMG Professorship in International Corporate
Governance, have developed a solution: a boardroom simulation.
Other boardroom simulations exist, of course, but this
one is very different. After learners have gone through their
simulated board meeting, they compare their boardroom
performance-questions asked, observations made, and the
board's decisions--with those of experienced practitioners
in the same situation.
This boardroom simulation was designed for business, law,
and social science students as well as executives, lawyers,
and rising corporate board members. The learners begin by
watching a set of short videos of " Corporate Governance
101, " to ensure a common base of background knowledge.
After going through their own simulated board meeting, a
learner with this simulation can watch a video of that very same
board meeting where the board members are experienced
practitioners of corporate governanceWatching this video,
learners can compare their own simulated board meeting
experience with what experts in corporate governance did
under the exact same circumstances!
The next step is a videotaped discussion in which Professors
David Chekroun and Drew Shagrin comment on the meeting
of the experienced practitioners, pointing out issues that
deserve attention, and expanding on what was said and done.
In parallel videos, some of the experienced practitioners
themselves comment on their own simulation, pointing out
issues that deserve attention, and expanding on what was
said and decided.
Finally, learners have access to a video library of capsules
addressing hot issues in corporate governance, from M&A to
ESG, thereby completing the learning journey. Thanks to the
generous support of KPMG, this English-language teaching tool
is free to use and is intended for a large audience in France,
Europe, North America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
