Adaptive Lifelong
Learning
No one learner is equivalent to another, that's why, Higher Education institutions have to create
content that is adaptive, intuitive, and responsive to a lifelong learner's personal journey.

L
ifelong learning is all learning
activity undertaken throughout
life, with the aim of improving
knowledge, skills, and competences within
a personal, social, and employment-related
perspective. It is a dynamic process that
varies depending on individual skills and
motivation for self-regulated, generative
learning and on life events that impose
challenges that sometimes demand incremental/adaptive
changes and transformational
learning. As every teacher knows,
no one learner is equivalent to another.
Each of them has their own characteristics,
peculiarities, abilities and weaknesses,
and broad-based learning approaches may
be ineffective in embracing this complexity
over the long term. This is where adaptive
learning delivers customized solutions to
meet the specific learning needs of individuals.
Adaptive learning is an educational
system based on technology and data analysis,
allowing teachers to track learners' performance
and adjust methods and programs
to each learner's lifelong learning needs.
Many of the products and services we use

every day are already leveraging artificial
intelligence to improve the user experience.
Learning styles influence the development
of learning solutions. A person's lifelong
learning style can be influenced by age, ethnicity,
cultural background, and other factors
that must be considered in the development
process. Higher Education institutions and
Corporate Universities must be prepared
to begin implementing adaptive learning
to empower learners and employees by
optimizing content to suit users' preferred
learning style. This will not only make
the learning experience more enjoyable for
them, but it will also help with knowledge
retention and on-the-job performance.
An Artificial Intelligence-powered training
program allows that program to be adaptable,
whereby modules are modified to suit
the needs of each learner. Learning insights
help develop a broader understanding of
learner behaviour, generating predictive
capabilities. Using these insights, Higher
Education institutions can create smarter
content that is adaptive, intuitive, and
responsive to a lifelong learner's personal
journey. Adaptive learning can drastically
shorten the learning process by suggesting
only specific modules that the learner needs
to improve their skills in for the future job
they are applying for. Having learned the
strengths, weaknesses and learning preferences
of the user, the system can suggest
suitable training courses and modules for
the learner. This approach can enhance the
training experience for learners and provide
personalized feedback on areas for

improvement. For example, using tools
such as speech-to-text that rely heavily on
machine learning, users can receive feedback
on the performance of their presentation
in areas such as voice rhythm, number
of hesitation words used, and whether
certain keywords were mentioned, among
others.
In corporate training, performance data can
be collected when employees perform their
jobs in the workplace and during training
courses. When workplace data is analysed,
learning and development professionals
