The ESCP
Energy Society:
an Energetic Network !
The aim of the Energy Society is to engage ESCP students in industry related events, maximise
networking opportunities and help them develop professional skills through a range of activities.
Can you describe your Association
in a few words?
The ESCP Business School's Energy Society
is a student association based in the London
Campus, open to all students, alumni and
academic staff of the School which promotes
cutting edge research and student events
and boosts collaboration with industry
experts. The society organizes activities such
as panel discussions and debates led by top
experts, conferences concerning energy-related
initiatives and latest developments,
and sharing of energy-related articles and
publications.
Annually, the Society holds the ESCP Energy
Trading Challenge, which is a competitive
team event open to talented students from
the world's best universities organised by
MSC in Energy Management (MEM) students,
in collaboration with Smart Global,
ESCP Business School, and its Energy
Management Centre (EMC). In this occasion,
participants are given the opportunity
to explore trading challenges and execute
responsible investment strategies.
The ESCP Energy Society also contributes
to the Energy Journal, which is a biannual
magazine published in collaboration with
three other well-known universities, LSE,
Imperial University and UCL. The joint venture
enables each society to utilise their specialist
knowledge within the energy scene
whilst also benefiting from cross-disciplinary
knowledge. The Journal focuses on current
energy affairs and covers economic, political
and technical trends with interdisciplinary
themes and its level of expertise ought to be
specialised and in-depth in order to provide
insights to readers, but simple enough for
the average energy-minded student to be
able to read it. The theme for the next edition
is " Making it Add Up " and focuses on the
main energy issues and solutions and on the
ability of renewables to penetrate the energy
markets while ensuring security of supply.
What has this project brought you?
The ESCP Energy Society discusses topics
of concern very relevant to our current time.
Hence, it allows growth beyond the specific
role that we hold as board members: it
brings us the ability to start thinking outside
the box in order to get the best opportunities
for all society members. Meeting different
perspectives on how to resolve issues allows
us to build a unique way of working and
our different backgrounds make the experience
more enriching and helpful for our
individual projects and goals. Meetings not
only give us the opportunity to learn from
each other, but they encourage considerate
and thought-provoking discussion invoking
innovative ideas to pursue our vision for the
Society and thereby motivating us to acquire
deeper knowledge on the sector
During the pandemic, we had to take
different measures to organize events, and
the only viable way to improve the future
appeared to be dictated by technology. In
order to do that, we had to maximize our
resources and learn how to use them more
efficiently. We exploited the opportunities
offered by digital tools, such as LinkedIn,

and we tried to expand our network virtually.
As long as we know what our goal
and objective are (and we communicate
them properly) there is no reason we would
not thrive in building a strong online reputation
and spreading awareness and communication
towards the energy field.
A message to share with ESCP
Alumni community?
Growing this society in times of social distancing
and national lockdowns has been
a challenge. We've had to adapt, seize new
opportunities, and shift most of our activities
online. Still, the enthusiasm of all Members
to learn about the energy sector and to share
their diverse knowledge and experience has
been core to the Society's success. Through
technical, educational, and work-related
webinars along with other networking
opportunities, we have broadened the scope
of our activities, continuously looking to
grow and expand as a Society
