The Big Data Club:
a student association
with big ambitions
We aim to make big data-related topics accessible
& digestible to everyone!
Can you describe the Big Data Club
in a few words?
The Big Data Club unites students, teachers,
alumni, professionals and the wider community
through our passion for big data.
We organise engaging events and publish
exciting content on data and tech-related
topics. The values of learning, connecting,
and fun shape our work! In 2017, the first
cohort of the ESCP Master in Big Data and
Business Analytics launched the association.
This year, we count over 35 members, organised
18 events and surpassed 1,000 followers
on LinkedIn!
What has this project brought you?
It was immensely rewarding to lead the
Big Data Club this year. My main personal
takeaways are aligned with our values of
learning, connecting and fun.
The Big Data Club experience taught me
more about teamwork and leadership. It
was fantastic to witness the achievements
of our team, from launching a newsletter
to organising conferences with 50+ participants!
Through our podcasts and publications,
I gained huge insight into the latest
data trends - like the rise of non-fungible
tokens and the role of creativity in artificial
intelligence. As the cherry on top, I
developed my technical skills during our
PowerBI and Python workshops.
The people I connected with were the best
part of the journey. We played Skribbl with
the ESCP MS Society, networked with
the Data-Oriented Thinking association
from ESSEC-CentraleSupélec and even
co-hosted an event with Ecole 42. During
our guest-company events, I also got to
hear about real-life data applications from
professionals working at Oracle, EY, Back
Market and more!
I am grateful for the learning experience and
the opportunity to work with such enthusiastic
people. It was exciting!
What message would you like to
share with ESCP alumni?
One of my most memorable Big Data Club
events this year was the Women in Data
and Tech week. As part of this project, we
hosted a panel discussion with five ambitious
women who all studied at ESCP. The
speakers joined from four different countries
and shared their personal stories of working
in the field of data and analytics at Deloitte,
Heineken, Bloomberg LP, CANAL+ Group
and Deliveroo. It was wonderful that the
alumni took the time to answer our questions
and give insights into their careers.
Therefore, my message to all alumni reading
this would be: thank you for your ongoing
engagement with the ESCP community, it
is invaluable!
