circular economy A different way of consuming? © Sophie Robichon/Mairie de Paris Promote recyclIng Paris and its partners have made a committment to innovative proposals. I n March 2014, Paris and around twenty other local authorities launched the General Assembly on the Circular Economy of Greater Paris. Five hundred representatives from the world of business, start-ups, associations, students and communities drew up an action plan to speed up the development of this sector. an appeal launched with eight other cities The result of this work took the form of a White Paper containing 65 proposals on the reduction of _ Paris.fr _ Paris.fr food waste, the collection of biowaste (plant and food waste), the creation of waste sorting sites and the recycling of worksite rubbish. On 16th September, following these proposals, the capital and 18 local authorities signed the Greater Paris Agreement for the Circular Economy. At the same time, Paris and eight other cities - Brussels, Copenhagen, Dakar, Lisbon, London, Mila n, Montrea l a nd Seou l - launched a Cities' appeal for the circular economy. n _ Paris.fr/economiecirculaire © Émilie Chaix/Mairie de Paris experiments a seParate collectIon for bIowaste A study is underway to carry out door-to-door collection of biowaste (plant waste and food leftovers) from apartment buildings in the 2nd and 12th arrondissements. Biowaste is currently incinerated with the waste in the green containers. Objective: collect it separately in order to transform it into compost or biogas. n were recycled and resold by Paris recovery and recycling centers in 2014. general assembly measures In June 2014, the city of Paris set itself the ambitious objective "zero waste". It intends to limit wastage and install collective compost bins (280 already exist). As for recovery, Paris helps 8 recovery centers, and concerning recycling, the city wishes to develop waste sorting by Paris city habitants. n vvMore than 2,400 tons of waste The city of Paris is encouraging the revalorization of used goods.
