By that date, there will be almost 1,400 km of cycle lanes and cycle parks, in particular near Paris railway stations and public transport where you will be able to safely park your bicycle. n Soft mobility is promoted by the city of Paris, such as bikes, in particular Velib'. _ Paris.fr _ Paris.fr/velo development PEdESTRiANizATiON Of ThE bANkS Of ThE SEiNE Since summer 2013, several expressways on the Left Bank of the Seine formerly accessible to cars have been transformed into walkways. Four million visitors have already made use of this opportunity. A consultation with Parisians on the pedestrianization of the Right Bank was held this year. n Special issue COP21 Metro line extentions One of the commitments made by the municipality was to increase public transport services, in particular the creation of a tramline. The first section (T3a) came into service in 2006 on the Maréchaux boulevards, between the Garigliano bridge (15th arr.) and Porte d'Ivry (13th arr). In 2012, this line was extended (T3b) between the Porte d'Ivry and Porte de la Chapelle (18th arr.). By the end of 2017, the section between Porte de la Chapelle and Porte d'Asnières (17th arr.) will be operational. The metro network was improved, and the underground lines 4, 11, 12 and 14 will be further extended. By 2013, car use had been reduced by 25 % in ten years. Autolib' accessible in 82 suburbs around Paris Another action taken by the city to improve Parisians' health: the creation of Autolib' in 2011. Today, this self service electric car rental service is available within Paris itself and in 82 neighbouring municipalities. Its fleet consists of almost 3,400 vehicles, obtainable at 990 stations. The number of users now stands at around 250,000. And not long ago a new service came into being: Utilib', which offers utility vehicles for hire. Furthermore, the city promotes a shared vehicle service. Another mode of travel which is encouraged in the French capital is the bicycle. The aim is to triple the number of journeys between now and 2020 (see opposite). Also the speed limit on the Parisian ring road was reduced in 2014 to 70 km/h, the 30 km/hr zones were extended and pedestrian areas created.
