Paris for climate Editorial Special issue COP21 from necessity to urgency 2 Ecological energy transition has long been necessary. It has now become an emergency to which we must respond by changing our lifestyle and our way of thinking, and by challenging our habits and our past beliefs. As a global city fully involved in the fight against climate change, Paris is proud to host COP21, and will do its utmost to ensure the conference takes place in the best possible conditions. Alongside 1,000 representatives from across the globe invited to this occasion, we will bring solid solutions that local authorities implement on the ground daily in each country, into the negociations. Alternatives are obvious. Either we allow ourselves to be caught up in an ever downward spiral which leads us to environmental, political and social disaster, or we choose to become involved in a different type of action: one which will allow us to define and achieve what is possible for us all in the face of impending doom - one which will create a different world while restoring our world back to us. It is my hope that COP21 will come to a decisive and definitive agreement for the survival and life of humanity on Earth. More than 20,000 delegates from all over the world, representing 196 signatory countries, will work on a new agreement to keep global warming worldwide below 2 °C. Exceeding this threshold would have irreversible consequences for all: rising sea levels, increasing numbers of natural catastrophes and a threat to food production... This summit needs to identify an international framework for the fight against global climate disruption.
