XLS10MWH MultiWave Hybrid laser system

ser system that combines multiple laser wavelengths and power into a single coaxial
beam. The XLS10MW accommodates a fixed fibre laser source and two different
CO2 laser wavelength sources that can be independently or simultaneously controlled for a virtually infinite number of wavelength and power combinations. As a
result, the MultiWave Hybrid can cut, engrave or mark any material - even notoriously
difficult multi-layered materials with conductive and non-conductive layers - without
having to move or re-fasten the material. The generous platform size of the XLS10MWH
MultiWave Hybrid can accommodate most large composites, and is equipped with Class
4 capability and safety precautions for processing larger sheets.

ufacturer of high-performance three- and five-axis
CNC machining centres with over 40 years of experience, has now developed one of the world's largest
additive manufacturing systems. This system, called
LSAM (Large Scale Additive Manufacturing), performs
both the additive and subtractive functions on the same
machine. Using an approach, called "near net shape",
the LSAM prints carbon fibre-reinforced thermoplastic
materials to quickly create a part that is nearly, but not
exactly, the final net shape. The "subtractive" function
then machines the part to
the exact final net shape.
The LSAM recently printed
an oil drip pan mould using
carbon fibre-reinforced polysulfone (PSU) for a Chinook
helicopter that was tested by
ACE using traditional methods. The additive manufacturing material cost was 34%
less than traditional methods
and required 69% fewer labour hours. Build time for
the additive tool was 3 days
versus 8 days for the conventional tool. If the part was
larger, a support structure would have been necessary
for the conventional tool, which would add two days and
more labour hours to the process. In contrast, a larger
additive tool would not require a support structure. The
LSAM can be used for creating tooling, moulds, masters,
patterns, fixtures and plugs for a variety of industries including aerospace, automotive, boating, foundry and
thermoforming.

High-volume double-displacement pump

Phoenix Equipment Company launches a pump
based on its high-volume double-displacement
pump. This pump offers composites fabricators a
medium- and high-output, low-restriction alternative to the "old technology" systems. With its large
porting and engineered passageways, the Flowmaster
reduces flow restrictions to an ultra-low coefficient. This
allows for lower spraying pressures and better transfer
efficiencies. The addition of a contoured control centre
allows the operator to interface with the various features
of the system including a standard catalyst alarm and an
optional resin monitor. All of them presented in a simple,
operator-friendly design.
- F-2 gelcoat: Available in a 20:1 power ratio. This system is built to spray the most viscous and hard-to-process gelcoats. This system can also process neat and filled resins easily. With the power of a 40mm pump cylinder and standard 125mm air motor, the F-2
Flowmaster is the choice for the new generation of gelcoaters.
- F-3 chopper: Available in a 12:1 power ratio. This system not only can spray standard polyester resins, but it is built to spray all of the viscous, low-styrene resins including the difficult but cost-effective filled resins. With the power of a 71mm pump cylinder and standard
180mm air motor, the F-3 Flowmaster is the choice for the new generation of choppers.

Cold Jet: Composite tool cleaning with recycled dry ice

A variety of materials are utilized in the composite tooling industry, from epoxies and urethanes to aluminium and
steel, as well as Teflon-coated and highly polished tools. Tooling used for compression moulding, resin transfer moulding, extrusion, pre-pregging and wet-layup are all exceptional applications for dry ice blast cleaning that can remove a
variety of residual process contaminants from the moulds, including mould release agents, epoxy, Teflon tape, silicone,
phenolics, carbon and graphite without damaging the tools.
The dry ice cleaning process is environmentally responsible as the CO2 utilized is reclaimed from refining industries
and its use does not contribute to the greenhouse effect.
While tool cleaning using cloth wipes, solvents, and razor blades is very labour intensive, Cold Jet's dry ice cleaning increases
manpower efficiency, reduces waste and equipment maintenance costs. It is a clean, dry process that leaves no secondary
residue.
Complex geometries or simple corners are easily cleaned with dry ice, a non-corrosive, non-toxic and non-conductive cleaning process with no chemical
changes. The dry ice particles have low hardness and are therefore non-abrasive to any substrate harder than dry ice.
Cleaning with Cold Jet dry ice technology is an effective, environmentally-responsible solution to allow manufacturers to do more with less time, less
resources and with less impact on production.
