Maxima Plus is a premium fully-flat aircraft seating Hall 5A - F10
system that offers maximum capacity, aisle access to all passengers and a
minimum bed length of 195 cm. Through a patented layout, the system

that is comparable to the industry's most high-density seating

seat environment also delivers a

The seating system can be configured and optimised easily to offer the ultimate
personalisation service. The modular central console offers yet more customisation potentials that allow airlines to fine-tune seat functionality and stowage.
The fully-motorised kinematics of the seat supports customizable pre-determined programmes. Seats are adjustable over a range of ergonomically determined configurations varying from the upright "take-off and landing" at 180
cm pitch to a fully flat "relaxing and sleeping" surface of 195 cm. Optimares'
mission was to design seats that are comfortable throughout a 16-hours flight
duration. These seats accommodate an anthropomorphic range that includes
the 5th-percentile Asian female build through the 95th-percentile Northern
European male build. The open space under the seat shell provides ample
stowage for carry-on.

Innovative thermoplastic

As part of the Dutch innovation programme TAPAS 2 (Thermoplastic
Affordable Primary Aircraft Structure 2), NLR - Netherlands Aerospace
Centre developed a technique to manufacture large and thick thermoplastic composite parts using Advanced
Fibre Placement (AFP). The "aircraft
engine pylon" innovation is the improvement of a process to manufacture
U-shaped parts up to 6 metres with
thicknesses varying from 12 to 28 mm.
Because the aircraft pylon parts become
very hot during normal use, the current
pylons are commonly made of steel and
titanium. Huge cost savings can be achieved by replacing the titanium parts
with composites. Composites reduce weight and can also reduce lead times
significantly. This new programme uses a thermoplastic PEKK material from
TenCate that can be used at higher temperatures than standard epoxy resins.
This material is highly suitable for AFP processes to create an affordable product. The "buy-to-fly ratio" is high since local build-ups can be made without
scrap edges. And, thanks to the use of thermoplastic materials, the small cut of
edges and even the complete part can be recycled and re-used at the end of its
lifetime. The potential of this innovative process for automatic fibre placement
of thermoplastic PEKK materials for thick U-shaped products in the aerospace is endless. The technique can also be used for a wide variety of products
such as highly loaded metal (titanium) forgings, as well as other structures like
wing spars, stabilizer spars, floor beams, etc.
