Blade Runner resin feed line

The Blade Runner resin feed line is a new, patented development from
DD-Compound that helps to achieve better part quality with a perfect
surface. Reduced voids and easy handling are the advantages that characterize this new product. During the setup for the vacuum infusion, one
or more resin feed lines are placed on the part. A standard spiral tube or
an omega channel are often used. Now this
tube or channel can simply be substituted
by the new resin feed line. Its construction
and materials make the Blade Runner line
more stable than a normal spiral tube. It
combines a tube, a sort of fleece and two
different flow media.

Thereby, it is easier to place and fix at the desired location, making the setup
for the vacuum infusion faster. With its unique design, the new resin feed line
keeps a distance from the part surface, thus minimizing print marks and air
impacts on the surface, especially in the area where the resin feed line is placed,
resulting in higher part quality with a perfect surface and structurally improved
parts. With Blade Runner, working hours and costs can be saved during the
setup and the work on the surface after the infusion. Together with the MTI
hose, the MTI valve and the Squeezee tube clip, DD-Compound products facilitate the production of parts using the vacuum infusion process, ensuring
high quality, a simple and fast workflow and a perfect surface. All the products,
including the new Vac Checker digital vacuum gauge, are available worldwide.

The technologies presented by the
Fraunhofer Institute for Machine
Tools and Forming Technology
IWU offer weight saving potential
in the automotive, mechanical engineering, plant engineering and architecture
sectors. They combine improved productivity, component quality and reproducibility, while saving energy and
resources. For example, Radius Pultrusion makes it possible for the first time
to mass-produce bent continuous fibre-reinforced plastic profiles at low cost
- a key to lightweight construction with complex geometries, for example in
vehicle construction. In addition to fibre-plastic composites, formed plastic
and hybrid components are also presented. Another focus is the integration of
component structure and functions.
The Institute's scientists integrate shape-memory wires into plastic structures
in order to use them as sensors to monitor changes in the strain behaviour of a
material. This results in a wide field of applications, from medical engineering
to rotor blades for wind power plants. In rotor blades, shape-memory sensors
contribute to higher efficiency by influencing the orientation of the blades
based on the measured data. Moreover, shape-memory wires in fibre-reinforced structures can also be used as actuators that change the shape of components. This opens up new possibilities, for instance in aircraft construction.
In future applications, the aerodynamic properties of airfoils could be influenced by such actuators, contributing to lighter high-performance airplanes.
