robot, the Swiss cutter manufacturer presents a modular digital cutting system designed for exceptional productivity and performance.
Maximum productivity and reliability, along with simple integration in automated production workflows, are
critical competitive advantages in the composites market. Perfectly coordinated system components working together in a fully-integrated digital workflow are the key to success. With the G3 M-1600 cutting system
combined with a collaborative UR robot, Zünd offers a perfect automation solution for cutting and off-loading
prepreg materials. The UR robot does not require caging or other protected workspaces and relieves the operator
of the repetitive, non-value adding task of sorting and unloading. The cut parts are automatically stacked and can
be removed at any time without any interruptions to the production process. With a cutting area of 1330 x 1600
mm, the G3 M-1600 can handle anything from prepreg materials to dry weave and core materials, and even moulded parts. No matter whether carbon
or glass fibre, aramid, pre-consolidated, semi-finished thermoplastics, hard foam or honeycomb - with its advanced tool design, Zünd offers the perfect
high-performance cutting tool for every application. To meet the rigorous demands of processing fibreglass and carbon fibre, for example, the company
recommends the extremely efficient and robust Power Rotary Tool (PRT), which is also protected against electrically-charged or abrasive dust particles.
For cutting materials with a low melting point without damaging them, the RPM settings of the tool can be adjusted for specific material requirements.
The Pneumatic Oscillating Tool (POT) is another powerful tool. Air-driven, with an 8 mm stroke, this tool is the perfect choice for efficiently processing
honeycomb and hard foam materials. The routing option with the R62 specialty router bit, on the other hand, is the ideal tool for precisely and efficiently
routing cured parts.

Augmented reality for composites

Anaglyph, the UK composites design and manufacturing solutions specialist, will demonstrate the revolutionary hand lay-up ply placement
technology PlyMatch. PlyMatch™ uses augmented reality to show the live
combined images of actual and target ply outlines and fibre orientation
details on a monitor, so that the two can be matched by the operator. It is used
for the accurate placement of plies in hand lay-up manufacture of composite
parts, as well as for monitoring and validation of automated methods. It is particularly useful in case of complex geometries, with high curvature or enclosed
spaces. So far, its users are in the aerospace, automotive and transport sectors.
There are still a lot more possible applications. Laminate Tools is a stand-alone
Windows® application, interfacing with
most industry standards. It addresses the
entire design-analysis-check-manufacture group process of structural design, but focusing on the composite material
features. It complements existing CAD systems and/or FEA environments.
Laminate Tools has native interfaces to Solidworks, Rhino, Nastran, Ansys and
Abaqus. It helps optimize and manufacture exactly what is being designed and
saves valuable team time. CoDA (Composite Component Design Analysis) is
used for the preliminary analysis of sub-components with plate, beam, joint,
flange or laminate geometries. It is based on several years' research at NPL
(National Physical Laboratory) that included experimental validation, which
means that its results can be relied upon. CoDA is available as seven independent, but integrated, modules. Based on the classical laminate theory, LAP
(Laminate Analysis Program) is used to analyse any type of composite laminate subjected to in-plane loads and moments. The flat laminate has no fixed
size, apart from its thickness, so that the analysis can be applied to any composite component where loadings and deformations are known. Anaglyph Ltd.
