OCSiAl to showcase reinforced

Tuball Matrix, the first industrially-available cost-effective concentrates making the exceptional characteristics of single-wall carbon
nanotubes as an innovative conductive and reinforcing additive available for a vast range of materials, will be showcased at JEC by OCSiAl.
When embedded into a composite matrix, these nanotubes create a highly conductive and reinforcing 3D
network. In tests carried out with
Hamburg University of Technology
(TUHH), OCSiAl proved that
as little as 0.05 wt.% of Tuball nanotubes significantly improve the
fracture properties of composites,
reducing the delamination area and
increasing compression-after-impact strength. JEC will be the primary stage
for demonstrating a truly advanced ready-to-use component that is rapidly
finding extensive applications - Tuball Paper. This is an ultra-light, conductive and durable material for applications where weight and conductivity
are crucial, such as aerospace (lightweight data cable shielding, de-icing),
electric vehicle and energy applications (lightweight Li-ion batteries, Al and
Cu collector replacement, Si-anode) and high-performance composites and
construction materials. In addition to the exhibited technologies, JEC attendees will experience first-hand the performance of the next-generation
end products that were created with the use of nanotubes and have already
been successfully commercialized.

ELG Carbon Fibre will showcase their extensive range of
Carbiso™ products designed to support light weighting in
high-volume transportation applications in the automotive, rail
and aerospace sectors.
The Carbiso™ M and TM isotropic mats offer excellent drapeability
and performance while delivering cost-effective weight reduction and
significant environmental benefits compared to virgin carbon fibre.
The materials may be used on their own or with a selective use of virgin carbon fibres to provide tailored structural properties.
Carbiso™ M mats are ideally suited for closed-mould processes and can
also be used for the manufacture of intermediate products such as prepregs and sheet moulding compounds for composite manufacturing.

Carbon Fibre is manufacturing
a range of large width nonwoven
mats on a newly installed production line at their UK headquarters. The custom-built machine can
produce a variety of materials including 100%-recycled carbon fibre
mats and thermoplastic blends such as carbon fibre mixed with PP,
PA, or PPS fibres. The mats are available in widths up to 2.7 m with a
wide range of fibre areal weights.

Novel prepreg technology for high-volume manufacture

In conjunction with the Ford Motor Company and DowAksa, Dow Automotive Systems developed the Vorafuse™ resin systems Hall 5A - S40
to satisfy the need to manufacture carbon fibre composites in high volumes. When combined with carbon fibre fabrics or unidirectional tapes via prepreg processing, the resulting product, Vorafuse™ P6300, offers fully automated processing and rapid cycle times for compression moulding, enabling high-volume production of structural automotive components. Ford, Dow Automotive Systems, and DowAksa developed
Vorafuse™ P6300 along with advanced processing and tooling to meet stringent performance parameters. The resulting composite materials enable up
to 50% reduction in mass over conventional metal components and a 3-minute cycle time. Fast-processing Vorafuse™ technology is rooted in novel chemistry that enables tack-free, room-temperature, shelf-stable prepregs that can be handled, cut, stacked and preformed robotically. In the final compression
moulding step, the prepreg is cured in approximately 2 minutes, leaving the remaining cycle time for tool movement, part ejection, and reloading the next
preform. Thus, Vorafuse™ P6300 and processes were developed to support high-volume automated production of structural composites.
To demonstrate the technical viability of this new composite material, Ford recently implemented it, with support of their Tier 1 partner, on the front roof
