Hexcel invests in carbon fibre recycling
The company announces that it has made a strategic investment in Carbon Conversions Incorporated (CCI). The investment creates a partnership between Hexcel - a specialist in
manufacturing advanced composites and carbon fibre - and
CCI - a recognized company in carbon fibre recycling and
repurposing.
CCI reclaims carbon fibre from dry, wet, and cured structures and
incorporates reclaimed carbon fibres in advanced materials that are
used to make new, high-performance components. Working collaboratively, Hexcel and CCI will further advance aerospace and industrial applications for reclaimed carbon fibre, enabling the widespread commercial adoption of high-performance, recycled carbon
fibre reinforced products and extending their lifecycle.
The investment continues to add to the Hexcel portfolio of
next-generation, advanced composite technologies that result in
improved material performance and light weighting for aerospace
and industrial applications.

Opening

Hexion to build new technology, R&D center in Germany
The company announced plans to build a European technology
center in Kamp-Lintfort, Germany, to consolidate activities from
several research and development facilities located in nearby
Duisburg.
The new facility will house research and development activities including the Transportation Research and Application Center
(TRAC), which develops technology solutions to enable growth of
composites for the automotive industry. The facility will also increase
Hexion's process technology research and improve formulation development capabilities for coatings, civil engineering, aerospace
composites and electrical casting applications. This new facility will
complement Hexion's high-tech lab dedicated to wind energy applications in Esslingen Germany, which is housed within a high-capacity specialty epoxy resin blending facility. The company plans to complete the project in mid-2018.
