Polynt launches
production line in Germany
The company has invested in its German
location near Frankfurt in a new production line fully dedicated to manufacturing of carbon fibre reinforced SMC for
serial applications.
Polynt is a specialist in the production
and sales of anhydrides and derivatives
along the chain across resins and up
to compounds for more than 60 years.
Based on such integrated business
model, the Polynt Composites Division
provides a wide range of UPR and VE
resins as well as glass- and carbon fibre
reinforced composites.
In four plants, located in Italy, Germany, Poland and South Korea, Polynt
Composites produces Sheet Molding
Compounds (SMC) and Bulk Molding
Compounds (BMC) with a total capacity of 80.000 tons/Y.
This industrial line has a production
width of max. 1,5m. It is equipped with
devices to operate with chopped carbon
fibres in different fibre lengths, with
recycled carbon fleece and with all types
of fabric for prepregs. Polynt Composites
has developed and is using new resins
systems in order to propose the CFSMC's for applications in various market
sectors. The new CF-SMC is in operation
since spring this year and has a capacity
of about 2.000 tons/year.
Due to the growing demand for carbon
fibre materials, Polynt's management is
evaluating the possibility of opening a
further production line in South Korea
in 2016.

Aerion and Airbus announce
expanded collaboration
on supersonic AS2
With joint engineering efforts accelerating on the Aerion AS2 supersonic
business jet program, Aerion and Airbus
Group announced a new agreement that
will expand North American-based Airbus
Group resources to the AS2 program.
Support from Airbus Group operations in
North America will include engineering,
procurement and supply chain management, logistics planning, program management, and government relations. These
new resources will augment engineering
support from Airbus Defence and Space
in Spain.
To supplement the design process, Airbus
Defence and Space has built a sample
titanium wing leading-edge section for
evaluation and is testing composite material specimens to optimize material properties. Aerion is the lead for other systems,
such as avionics, electrical, environmental
control, hydraulics, and auxiliary power.
In conjunction with Airbus Defence and
Space, Aerion had made preliminary
space allocations for every system with
weight and balance considerations in
mind. Airbus Group will provide major
components and Aerion will conduct final
assembly in the U.S. Both companies envision a long-term relationship for ongoing
technical support.

The Group is in particular involved in
the construction of a new Asian plant
for Maruti-Suzuki and has recently
launched production of the SCR emissions control system for Toyota's diesel
vehicles at its Kitakyushu plant in Japan.
Meggitt completes acquisition
of the advanced composites
businesses of Cobham for $US
200 million
Further to the announcement made
on 10 August 2015, Meggitt confirms that
the acquisition of the advanced composites businesses of Cobham plc (Cobham
Advanced Composites Limited, Compass
Composites Products Inc and certain assets
of Cobham Advanced Electronic Solutions
Inc) for $US 200 million in cash has now
received all necessary approvals and the
transaction has been completed.
The acquired businesses will be integrated
into Meggitt's polymers and composites
division.

Covestro, Saertex and Hübers
develop a technology to produce
45 meter-long spar cap for wind
power rotor blades
Companies produced a prototype of a
45 meter-long spar cap. The spar is the
core of the structural framework and has to
accommodate the full wind load.
Together with Saertex, a manufacturer of
non-woven fibreglass, and Hübers as partner for the process technology, Covestro
has developed an innovative technology
for manufacturing rotor blades in line with
precisely these requirements. The new
process features a whole new approach
to combining polyurethane resin with
non-woven fibreglass. The partners have
now successfully produced the prototype
for a 45 meter-long spar cap at the Institute
of Composite Structures and Adaptive
Systems of the German Aerospace Center
(DLR) in Stade.
The half-shells for the rotor blades are
manufactured using a vacuum infusion
process. This involves placing core materials and non-woven fibreglass into a mold
and sealing the structure hermetically
with a film. After applying a vacuum, the
infusion process begins with introducing the liquid polyurethane resin. Hübers
Verfahrenstechnik Maschinenbau GmbH
has developed a manufacturing technology
that enables controlled mold filling.
