In a global composites market that is
growing at 6% per annum, Asia already
accounts for nearly 50% of the world production. In 2013, the Asian composites
market was around 4 million tons and
represented the largest regional market
across the global composites market.
Asian countries currently benefit from
economic growth, a growing per capita
income and technological development.
In some places, composite solutions are
even sustained by the virtuous circle of
vision, ambition and investments. The
result is a landscape of opportunities.
JEC Asia 2014 - already the 7th session
- reflects the advances of the most active
organisations and companies in this vast
region of the world. The Summit will start
with an in-depth overview of the various
trends, local specificities and regional
actors, with speakers and delegates from
the main Asian countries.
The other conferences will cover the main
technological composite challenges for
Asia.
In terms of materials, carbon is the
subject of conversations all over the world
but even more extensively in Asia. While
Japan is the world's leading carbon fibre
producer, other major players, and especially in Asia, are expanding their production capacity to meet the demand of
aerospace, automotive and other markets.
Most of the applications submitted to the
JEC Asia Awards' jury dealt with carbon
materials, semi-products (prepregs) or

carbon technologies.
New concepts and applications - mostly
based on thermoplastics, simulation and
automation - will be at the heart of the
event. Asia is also full of opportunities for
equipment providers. A large portion of
the exhibition will showcase machines,
robots and automated systems. Finally,
two extensive sessions will be devoted
to the aerospace and oil & gas sectors.
Aerospace is vital in Asia and precisely in
Singapore, which is a major aero hub for
MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul). Moreover, the oil and gas industry
is using more and more composite materials. Malaysia and Singapore are major
refining centres. Singapore is a leading
LNG trading hub in Asia and one of the
world's top three export refining centres.
Finally, JEC Asia 2014 will focus on
automotive applications and urban
mobility adapted to local needs. The heat
and humidity in tropical megacities pose
unique challenges including cooling and
battery pack heat management. JEC Asia
will exhibit several vehicles, including
the first electric taxi for tropical megacity
fleets.
Formula One will be the highlight of the
show with the exceptional participation
of Alain Prost, four-time Formula 1 World
Champion, who will deliver his vision of
performance and safety.
