Edra Equipamentos wins the
Excellence Award in Composites
The first sustainable ATM manufactured in Brazil has led Edra Equipamentos
to win the Excellence Award in Composites in the category “Best Technological Development”. The award was also
extended to Jorge Braescher, president of
the company, who was elected the “Person of the Year”.

In its 11th edition, the Excellence Award
is organized
by Artsim.

The ATM developed by Edra Equipamentos has over twenty innovations compared
to conventional models, including walls
and ceiling made of “green” composites
– the resins are partially derived from

BASF constructs new research
building in Ludwigshafen
BASF is constructing a new laboratory building that will combine research
scientists from several specialties
under one roof. The building is being
created close to Gate 7 in the south of the
in Ludwigshafen site, and on 4300 square
meters of modern laboratory area. This
offers material physicists and additive, formulation and polymer researchers ideal
conditions for even closer cooperation.
The investment amounts to approximately €50 million.
In constructing the new laboratory facilities, BASF attaches particular value to the
use of energy-efficient solutions. Innovative construction materials from research
as well as BASF products will be used.
These include building insulation with
high performance foams and Mastertop®
flooring for part of the floors.

Quatro Composites plans $11.8 million
expansion at its Orange City, Iowa,
manufacturing complex
Almost 100 jobs will be created by an
$11.8 million investment by Quatro
Composites, an advanced composites
manufacture for the aerospace, defense,
industrial and medical industries, at its
Orange City, Iowa headquarters.
Located at 403 14th Street SE in Orange
City, the firm specializes in designing
and fabricating advanced composite
structures for commercial aerospace,
unmanned aerial vehicles and medical
equipment manufacturers. The company
said its recent growth has been driven by
several contracts from aerospace suppliers
to produce carbon composite structures
for the new 787 Dreamliner airplane. The
increased manufacturing space will allow
Quatro to take on additional new business
opportunities for other manufacturers.

Ashland announces the beginning of
gelcoat production in Brazil
Besides reinforcing its entire portfolio of
polyester and vinyl ester resins – already
serving the Brazilian market from local
manufacturing – Ashland announced the
beginning of the production of Maxguard™ premium gelcoats in Brazil.
According to Rodrigo Oliveira, marketing
and sales manager of Ashland, the decision to invest in the local production was
motivated by the marine market growth,
one of the main consumers of gelcoat –
Ashland has been marketing Maxguard™
premium gelcoats in Brazil since mid2010. “The demand from domestic boat
builders has grown steadily. In parallel,
some of the international boat builders we
serve globally have opened manufacturing
in Brazil”.
