Conclusion
The transfer of steel processing technologies to preform production is an approach that aims at closing the gap between required FRP parts in serial production and stateof-the-art preform production. Thereby, tailored NCF with locally adjusted properties such as fibre orientation, thickness, drapability and bending stiffness are converted into near-net-shape textile preforms in a sequence of automated process steps. The production technologies required for tailored NCF – electro-mechanical driven guide-bar, feeding module and stacking unit – are developed and produced at ITA. Multi-step preforming is the conversion of tailored NCF and other fabrics to complex preforms. Cutting, handling and joining technologies are individually analyzed and further developed to enhance productivity. n
