The Asia-Pacific composites sector is diversified. Large developed markets like Japan, Taiwan and Korea have a fully integrated value chain, i.e. significant players at each step of the value chain and a high technology level with strong focus on electronics and transportation applications. Small developed markets like Singapore and Malaysia focus mainly on composite processing for aerospace and construction. Large emerging markets like India or China have a strong but heterogeneous composite industry value chain. Facing such a complex region, JEC Group conducted a ten-year analysis and networking approach before creating JEC Asia in 2008. During the past five years, JEC has consolidated its position thanks to its long-term strategy, the contribution of valuable individuals who unconditionally support us, and the efforts of JEC’s self-willed teams. It is now a multidimensional platform that reflects the innovation found in the region.

Asia Pacific countries have established significant R&D capacity in composites. What is most interesting are the links between corporate composite R&D centres and universities or laboratories. Considering the 2012 JEC Asia Awards, we could say that for mature countries such as Australia, Japan and Korea, these cooperations benefit the transportation and construction sectors. In fast-growing countries like China, India, Malaysia or Thailand, the composite industry is soaring through the development of local industries, and this benefits the offshore and energy sectors. Consequently, with all these investments, Asian countries should keep on increasing their market share and reach more than 50% of the worldwide market volume by 2015.
