which is higher than that of glass fibre, i.e. sports & leisure and transportation (automotive, railway and aerospace over the long term), among others. The fibres can even be used in hybrid form, i.e. mixed with carbon fibres, because they improve the vibration and impact damping properties. This is already applied in tennis rackets, skis, and racing bicycles. Plus, the environmental aspect of flax and hemp fibres will open up applications where the environmental impact of materials becomes increasingly important, like building and construction (interior and exterior walls, window profiles, ceilings, etc.).
JCM: Do you think that flax and hemp will become established on a durable basis?

JCM: Flax and hemp have real advantages. In your opinion, which application sectors have the most potential?

I. V. : In principle, any application in which glass fibre is already used is open to flax and hemp due to their specific stiffness (stiffness divided by the density),
