New Resin Systems: TR-series: a fast curing resin. It cures at 130°C for 10min. Bureau Veritas Laboratories is presenting its new Composites Centre of Excellence located in France, near Bordeaux. This centre offers a wide range of customized services applied to plastics and composite materials. Since 2011, two new activities have completed the lab’s recognized experience in the field of physics and chemical analysis. The mechanical tests laboratory performs tests on carbon fibre, plastics and high-resistance composite (aeronautics, wind, energy,…) at temperatures ranging from -70°C to 250°C, following the NF EN ISO, ASTM and AITM standards and specific developments. With the support of Bureau Veritas Group, particularly in the NDT and design fields, the laboratory can handle complete specifications for customers worldwide. The electrical tests laboratory is equipped to characterize the electrical properties of insulating, semi-conductive and conductive materials. Various tests can be performed at low and high voltage up to 100 kV, in wet and dry environments, including resistivity, electrical permittivity and breakdown voltage, etc. www.bureauveritas.com

The draping and forming behaviour of standard and noncrimp fabrics is important in the production of threedimensional fabric-reinforced composite parts. As such production processes are becoming increasingly automated, drapability and the detection of defects such as gaps, loops, or wrinkles during draping become even more important.

Dielectric analysis (DEA) as per ASTM E 2038 and E 2039 standards can be used to measure changes in the dielectric properties of a resin during UV curing. The liquid or pasty resin must be placed in direct contact with two electrodes comprising the dielectric sensor. The modular concept of the brand-new DEA 288 Epsilon allows for the study of the UV curing behaviour of adhesives, paints, inks and coatings in nearly any application. The lab version, with up to 8 channels, can be used in conjunction with a newly designed furnace for research and development, which has access to a UV lamp triggered via a light guide. The industrial versions are intended for production monitoring and process control, and are designed with up to 16 channels. As an example, the picture shows the slim version with up to two channels. The industrial devices are connected via rugged extension cables and connectors to various types of sensors which are located in moulds, ovens, conveyors or other devices for UV curing. Reusable tool mount sensors (TMS) in a variety of geometries and temperature/pressure ranges can be applied to moulding processes and dental composites. For paints, inks, adhesives and coatings, various implantable (disposable) comb sensors tailored to a variety of application needs via defined electrode spacing from 1 μm to 115 μm are available.

The new automatic drapability tester Drapetest, which is the result of a common development between Faserinstitut Bremen (Fibre), HAINDL Kunststoffverarbeitung, Institut für Textiltechnik (ITA) of RWTH Aachen University, Saertex, J. Schilgen and Textechno, can automatically characterize drapability and the formation of defects during draping and forming. The tester combines the measurement of the force required for forming with an optical analysis of smallscale defects such as gaps and loops by means of image analysis. An optional triangulation sensor can determine large-scale defects such as wrinkles. Drapetest is suitable for fabrics made of glass, carbon, aramid and similar materials. As standardized simulation of the draping process, a flat circular sample of the fabric to be tested is deformed at its centre by means of a motor-driven piston. A camera with appropriate illumination inspects the sample at several elevation steps while the sample is rotated in order to inspect a maximum percentage of its surface. In the same manner, the sample is scanned by the optional triangulation sensor.
