Efficient manufacturing of load-optimized CFRP > Booth H64

The demand for high-tenacity special fibres such as aramid, UHMWPE and carbon fibres is steadily growing. At the same time, the optimization of energy consumption, space requirements and efficiency is of highest interest. WinOro-2-cap winding solutions for special fibres > Booth T76

The Corecut tooling system is designed for the various machining applications that arise in the 5-axis milling process of honeycomb materials. A high degree of flexibility is achieved by using different combinations of front-end tools, shredders and shanks to create perfect solutions for the demanding requirements of honeycomb machining.

New press series offers greater closing force and drive precision

German press manufacturer Wickert Maschinenbau GmbH recently launched a series of high-pressure RTM presses with significantly enhanced closing force and drive precision, particularly when it comes to the closing movement of the tool. The machines feature hydraulic parallelism control of the closing plates, which are kept absolutely parallel by means of four hydraulic counter-pressure cylinders, even under extremely asymmetric plate load. Conventional RTM processes work with lower pressures than high-pressure RTM, but the overall parts manufacturing cycle is longer. With high closing and opening speeds and rapid pressure build-up, this series of presses has been able to respond to the challenge of shortened cycle times. The main fields of application are the sectors where lightweight parts are required, based on medium to large production runs, which are traditionally the aerospace and automotive industries. High-pressure RTM processes make a decisive contribution to greater cost efficiency.

The flexibility of the system makes it ideal for all kinds of honeycomb materials in use today. For the typical application of Corecut tools in 5-axis machines, the spindle should be tilted in two directions in relation to the honeycomb part. Thereby, the machining forces point towards the machine table and best results can be achieved. For small diameters, the tool system combines a shank shredder and a front-end tool, which is available in either solid carbide or HSSCo. For larger diameters, the tool system combines a front-end tool, a shredder and a shank. Various tooth geometries are available for the shredders. These geometries are designed to produce maximum cutting performance with the best surface finishes. Additionally, performance and tool life are increased through the application of an appropriate coating: a single PVD coating for wear protection, or a PVD multi-layer coating to prevent sticking as well.

Ordinary semi-finished textile products, such as non-crimp fabrics, cannot always allow for optimal fibre orientation when used in complex 3D geometries. Using a modified tailored fibre placement (TFP) technology, load-optimised, near-net-shape hybrid structures (tailored fibre reinforced blanks) can be created. In this process, reinforcement fibres are deposited together with thermoplastic filaments to produce flexible textile hybrid preforms. These preforms can be draped into a 3D geometry and consolidated into the final structural part. The advantages of the preform are the freely adjustable material mix and fibre volume content, no waste, optimal fibre orientation, design freedom, safe handling, cost-effective production on multihead TFP machines. Fibre lay-up using TFP technology allows the manufacture of textile preforms with several layers in one step. Each hybrid yarn is fixed with an upper and a lower thread by zigzag stitches. Neglecting the substrate, a one-layer preform is almost symmetrical. www.faserinstitut.de
