COMPANIES - FOCUS AEROSPACE only to a substantial JSF contract, but also to other potential defence and aerospace contracts, further validating the time and investment the company has put into preparing its production facility over the past 3 years. As a minimum, the USD700 million LTA would create about 156 high-end jobs, including technicians, engineers, machine operators and quality assurance experts. It may also create a further 620 support industry jobs. According to Paul Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of Lockheed Martin Australia, the industrial participation programme for the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter programme has already generated over USD200 million for 25 Australian companies and his company is continuing to work closely with the Federal and State Governments to identify further opportunities for the Australian defence industry. Mr Odouard said Quickstep was in discussions with other parties concerning further possible JSF-related contracts. www.quickstep.com.au new aircraft in the ASEAN and Pacific region. Recognizing the increasing presence of ATR aircraft and operators in the region, ATR has strongly expanded its regional support facilities in recent years. Besides the ATR Eastern Support Center based in Singapore, the ATR presence in Asia and the Pacific now includes training facilities in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, and spare part distribution warehouses in Singapore and Auckland. A third spare part distribution warehouse is to be opened in Kuala Lumpur before the end of the year. www.atr.fr Aer osp ace Group company. AVIC Aircraft and Nexcelle will consider a broad range of nacelle and component manufacturing and design opportunities, including current production programmes and new aircraft programmes. Categories could range from business jets to large airliners. The 50-50 joint venture will be backed by the resources of Nexcelle’s two parent companies – Aircelle and Middle River Aircraft Systems – as well as their parent companies GE Aviation and Safran Group. www.nexcelle.com COMPANIES Accreditation Rescoll awarded NADCAP accreditation for composite materials testing Rescoll, an independent French research company specialized in materials development, has received NADCAP accreditation for testing, analysis and characterization of composite materials; as unveiled on the 1st of November. Rescoll, boosted by Aquitaine’s UIMM (Union of Metallurgy Industry and Trade), successfully achieved the highly coveted NADCAP (National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program) accreditation for the “Non Metallic Materials Testing” program, making Rescoll the only French laboratory with the accreditation. Until now, the aeronautical industry’s prime contractors had accredited only one British, one Swedish and five American laboratories to conduct tests on composites. NADCAP is a worldwide cooperative program of major companies in the aerospace and defense industry designed to manage a cost-effective consensus approach to special processes and provide continual improvement. The NADCAP vision is “to develop a world-class special processor supply-base for the global aerospace industry using a cost-effective industry managed accreditation process”. Compared to other quality systems, NADCAP adds the concept of competency through technical examinations / performance tests. The technical requirements concern the company’s personnel and methodology as well as its calibration and test equipment. www.rescoll.fr Partnership AVIC Aircraft and Nexcelle form a nacelle joint venture On 23 September 2009, AVIC Aircraft Corporation and Aircelle/MRAS/Nexcelle signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to create the framework for a new joint venture that will design and manufacture engine nacelle and components for a full range of aircraft applications. The MoU, which was signed in Beijing during Aviation Expo China 2009, marks the first step in establishing a long-term alliance focused on engine nacelle technology and on the production of nacelle and components for both new and existing aircraft. The alliance brings together aviation industry leaders who will collaborate on engine nacelle technology, that plays a fundamental role in aircraft performance, efficiency and environmental footprint. AVIC Aircraft is in charge of developing medium/large transport aircraft, commercial aircraft, landing gear systems and nacelles in China. Nexcelle is the nacelle joint venture company created by GE’s Middle River Aircraft Systems. Aircelle is a Safran Development ATR establishes a commercial sales office in Singapore To enhance its presence and customer service in the growing Asia-Pacific market, ATR has implemented changes to its customer support and commercial organization which have been effective since 1 October. The new president of the ATR customer support organization (ATR Eastern Support) in Singapore is Laurent Nègre, who was previously Sales Director for Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific region. ATR is also establishing a commercial sales office in Singapore that will have overall responsibility for ATR aircraft sales in the ASEAN, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific region. Christophe Potocki, the current President of ATR Eastern Support, has been named General Manager Sales for the ASEAN and Pacific region and will head up this new sales organization. ATR is well established in the ASEAN and Pacific region with more than 100 aircraft flying for 27 operators in 15 different countries.
