AYUDAS y FINANCIACIÓN Las ayudas económicas para estudiar en un país extranjero pueden obtenerse por diversas vías. En la Administración Pública las ayudas suelen partir de instituciones locales, universidades y ministerios. Las universidades suelen ofrecer diferentes tipos de becas y programas de intercambio con universidades extranjeras. En el sector privado, algunas fundaciones, instituciones y bancos convocan periódicamente becas para cursar estudios en determinadas materias. Las becas y ayudas que se convocan pueden liberar total o parcialmente el pago de matrícula del curso o pueden cubrir tanto el pago del curso como los gastos derivados (viaje, alojamiento y material académico). Además de las becas, es posible que los centros e instituciones tengan acuerdos con entidades financieras que conceden a los estudiantes créditos o préstamos blandos, con bajos intereses y facilidades de devolución. Es aconsejable remitir las solicitudes tan pronto como sea posible, incluso con un año de antelación, ya que existe una intensa competencia en la demanda de becas. El primer paso es acudir al Ministerio de Educación de tu país, la embajada o consulado del país de destino y la oficina de orientación de estudiantes extranjeros en el centro donde se va a cursar estudios. Es igualmente recomendable contactar directamente con las múltiples organizaciones públicas y privadas que conceden fondos para estudios internacionales. Los estudiantes internacionales pueden acogerse a diferentes sistemas de ayuda en la financiación de sus estudios: • Becas y ayudas en el país de origen: Son las más comunes y suelen estar financiadas por los gobiernos regionales y estatales, por organizaciones no gubernamentales, empresas, bancos e instituciones religiosas. Algunas ayudas estatales requieren que el estudiante regrese a su país de origen tras finalizar los estudios. Para acceder a estas becas debes ponerte en contacto con el Ministerio de Educación de tu país. FUNDING and SCHOLARSHIPS Funding for study abroad is available from a number of sources. Government funding and scholarships are normally administered by local institutions, universities and ministries. Universities commonly offer scholarships and exchange programmes in conjunction with foreign institutions. In the private sector, many foundations, institutions, and banks offer scholarships for studying specific subjects. Scholarships and financial assistance may cover part or all of the tuition fees and in some cases will also include living expenses (travel, accommodation and learning materials). In addition to scholarships, academic institutions often have agreements with banks offering student loans with low interest rates and attractive repayment schemes. It is advisable to apply as early as possible, even up to a year in advance, as the demand for scholarships is highly competitive. The first step is to contact the Ministry of Education in your own country, the embassy or consulate of the host country and the international student advice service or admissions department of the centre itself. If you do not find what you are looking for, you can then begin to contact the numerous public and private organisations around the world that provide funding for international students.
