X-34. The latest little Danish cockpit to offer ease of access at sea when cruising. Inside, the furnishings are plush, as is the custom with X-Yachts, and it remains simple and of good quality, is well lit and airy. There is a double cabin at the stern, facing a compartment, which houses the W.C. and there is a locker, which is accessible from the cockpit. The chart table and the small galley are laid out on either side of the companionway. The mess is particularly large and at the front, we can find the cabin, which is of course much smaller. The X-34 measures 10.36 m LOA, with a 3.40-m beam and a draught of 1.90 m in the standard version. It displaces 5300 kg, including 2200 kg in the sabot-shaped keel, has a mainsail surface area of 38.70 m2, a 106% genoa with only 27.50 m2, and a 90.40 m2 spinnaker. In short, she is an easy boat to handle, looks very comfortable and is more powerful that the previous generation. An X-Yacht from this range should excel in racing. Her IRC rating is expected to be 0.995, which should help her. It will require testing in a wide range of conditions, which we shall see this winter. In any case, by the time of the Spi Ouest France as usual a specimen will be sailed by a crew from the yard. In the range of cruiser-racers, the latest model from the Danish builder is following in the wake of her elder sister, the X-37 and in terms of sales is following on from the X-332, a yacht that is recognised for its performances in light to moderate winds. At first glance, the 34-footer looks bigger than she really is. Probably because of the volume of her hull, which is more pronounced than that of the X-35, of a similar size, but belonging to the category of one-design boats for X-Yachts. The 34 is fitted with a traditional rig with two layers of swept back spreaders held by a backstay with a crow’s foot fitting on the deck, and has a (large) wheel of course.
