PERSONALITY His unexplained disappearance will have given rise to the most ridiculous rumours. It will also have led to one of the largest search and rescue missions in recent times. Steve Fossett, aged 63, took off on 3rd September aboard a light aircraft, and as we go to press, is still unaccounted for. And when the person that is missing is moreover a celebrity, with a massive fortune, fantasies are spread around at Mach 2, especially when the authorities seem to think it possible. The Lyon County police chief, Joe Sanford, admits investigating this possibility – «We’re going through the accounts, he said, the use of his bank cards, and his mobile phone records,» before rejecting the hypothesis of any planned escape.
