NEW LAUNCHES Luctor 36, one for the race course….of course! Maybe you recognise the name of this great racer? Loyal readers, you may remember that we did indeed present the Luctor 42 in Course au Large no.17. The boat is designed for ORC GP racing, and built by McConaghy at their site in Hong Kong. Luctor Yachts, the company founded by the Dutchman Jort van Sisseren, is back again today with this 36-footer designed with two goals in mind: to become a one-design boat and perform brilliantly in great IRC classics. Designed like the GP42 by the Lutra Design studio (who recently signed the 56’ Formidable, the successor to the famous Tonnerre de Breskens), the Luctor 36 is built of carbon with a foam core in the Pauger yard in Budapest, the very same production unit chosen by Russell Coutts to give birth to his RC44 one design. A mere glance is enough to show you the ambitions of this yacht with its straight lines… they are not trying to step on the toes of racing-cruisers! Clearly designed with racing in mind, this 36-footer presents a radical design, which reminds us a little of the ideas of certain Swiss builders (look at the boats made by Luca Brenta). A clean swept deck, fixed bowsprit CHARACTERISTICS LOA: 11.21 m Max beam: 3.56 m Draught: 2.75 m Displacement: 3000 kg Ballast: 1500 kg Mainsail area: 47.89 m2 Jib sail area: 34.56 m2 Spinnaker sail area: 148.34 m2 Mast height: 17.65 m (spinnaker pole included as standard), carbon rig, tiller, light gauge keel blade, deep rudder… no need to worry, you have everything you need to race! The head of the project did however tell us that internal fittings, which will be "comfortable, but lightweight" are planned. The main markets they are aiming for are France and Italy, so we can’t wait to see what this Luctor 36 can do, as VPP are talking about 25 knots downwind. Swan 90, a full size version of elegance When Swan announced the launch of the "latest in the long line of high quality racing yachts designed by German Frers", we could only expect an exceptional boat. And of course, the Finnish yard has not disappointed. The latest offering measures some 90 feet, with a maximum beam of 6.46 metres, measurements, which are close to those of the Farr custom designed Leopard3, that you can discover in this very edition. Of course, we are not talking here about a swing keel or side fins. The appendage is a lead bulb hanging form a keel blade made of Weldox steel with a draught of 4.40 metres. The Swan 90 FD, for Flush Deck, is a must in terms of flowing deck lines (an S version with a deck saloon is also planned), with the roof reduced to its bare minimum. In this category of boat, we do not find it that difficult to find headroom below deck… We can note the twin helm with its own private quarters – we couldn’t really talk about a “bath tub” for such a fine boat – and a console fitted with the electronic instrumentation. As for the rig, the carbon mast is fitted with a Park Avenue type boom for the Flush Deck version. The first model is currently being built, and five Swan 90s have already been sold, "without any owners calling for changes," the yard was proud to announce.
