European decision-making process for two
days, providing them with an experience
unique in its kind.
Titles awarded to personalities
working on European Integration
I
n October, the London campus has
hosted major events focusing on the
implications of Brexit and what the
future holds for both the EU without the
UK, and the UK standing alone. They welcomed Nicole Fontaine, former President
of the European Parliament and Affiliate
Professor at ESCP Europe, Tulip Siddiq,
MP for Hampstead and Kilburn, and many
more key industry experts.
The 9th edition of Start@Europe was held
on 30 and 31 October at the European
Parliament in Brussels, with the participation of personalities such as Nicole
Fontaine, Michel Barnier, Alessandro
Chiocchetti and Stéphane Saurel. During
this seminar, 806 Master in Management
(MiM) students from five of ESCP Europe's
campuses negotiated a draft revision of the
1996 Posted Workers Directive. ENA has
designed for ESCP Europe a programme
that allows students to experiment the
On November 10th, Frank Bournois, Dean
of ESCP Europe, and the Faculty, presented
the titles and epitoges of Doctor honoris
causa to four outstanding personalities
for their ongoing work in supporting
European integration.
The fi rst title was awarded to Mrs Nicole
Fontaine, former President of the European
Parliament, by Valérie Moatti, Dean of
the Faculty. The second epitoge was presented by Andreas Kaplan, Rector of the
Berlin campus, to Hans-Gert Pöttering,
who was the only politician to hold an
uninterrupted mandate as a Member of
the European Parliament from 1979 to
2014. Francesco Profumo, former Italian
Minister of Education and President of the
National Research Council and University
Professor, was the third distinguished
person at this event. Francesco Rattalino,
currently Director of the Turin campus,
underlined in his speech the many implications of the former minister in international working groups.
Ezra Suleiman, a Columbia University
Ph.D., Professor of Political Science and
Director of the European Politics and
Society Program at Princeton University
and Chair of the Scientific Council of the
Axa Research Fund, was the last person to
receive the Doctor honoris causa title from
the hands of Frank Bournois.
To continue this day dedicated to Europe,
two round tables were organised by the
students of the association Tribunes about
the future of the European Union, in the
presence of experts and personalities
such as Alain Juppé, Hubert Védrine and
Jean-Dominique Giuliani, President of the
Robert Schuman Foundation. Europe Day
ended with the intervention of Nathalie
Loiseau, Minister for Europe and Foreign
Affairs, in charge of European Affairs. ❙
Business Confucius Institute at ESCP Europe
O
n 24 November, on the occasion
of the Franco-Chinese high-level dialogue on people to people
exchanges session in Beijing, attended by
Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian and Chinese
Vice Premier Liu Yandong, Etienne Guyot,
Chief Executive of the Paris Île-de-France
Chamber of Commerce and Industry,
signed an agreement on behalf of ESCP
Europe with Hanban, the Office of
Chinese Language Council International,
to establish the 12th Business Confucius
Institute in the world.

Created in collaboration with Beijing
Foreign Studies University (BFSU), and
launched with the help and support
of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign
Affairs, the Confucius Institute of ESCP
Europe is the fi rst institute dedicated to
business in Île-de-France.
This new model of Business Confucius
Institute is aimed at students and all
executives who wish to acquire Chinese
skills and improve their knowledge of
the business environment. This system
will then be deployed on the school's five
other campuses (London, Turin, Berlin,
Madrid and Warsaw).
