The Executive MBA
of ESCP Europe
enters the Top 10 worldwide
The Executive MBA continues its successful development. Every year, this programme
attracts around 100 managers from more than 30 different nationalities who study at ESCP
Europe's campuses and who invest in their career. The programme was recently singled out
as No. #10 worldwide by the Financial Times and ranked No. #1 around the globe for "Aims
achieved". This was the best ranking in the history of the Executive MBA programme.
Can you introduce the Executive
MBA in a few words?
Valérie Madon: Our Executive MBA is
a flexible and cutting-edge programme
designed for tomorrow's international
leaders. This highly-customizable programme runs for 18, 22, 30 or 36 months
in part-time mode across five campuses
and in five additional countries, including
the USA, China and India. Participants are
free to choose the study track and the locations that best fit their schedules and their
professional objectives. The programme
values diversity, for instance in terms of
nationalities, industries, functions and
ages. We also try to make the programme
very attractive for women, although we
acknowledge that, like in most other
Executive MBA programmes, the ratio of
women should be higher. We would like
to have around 35% women in each class.

he programme is headed by two
alumni of our School: Valérie
MADON (83), who acts as the
Director of the Programme and who is
based at the Paris campus, and by Professor
Stefan SCHMID (EAP 93), who is the
Academic Dean of the Programme and
who has his Chair in Berlin, where he is
Professor of International Management
and Strategy. We interviewed Valérie and
Stefan about the programme.

How do you explain the
success of the programme?
Stefan Schmid: Our prog ramme is
unique. It offers a truly European and
international approach to management.
This is not only achieved by our multi-campus structure; it is also the result
of the high degree of internationalization of our Faculty and our participants
as well as our focus on international and
global topics in our courses. In addition,
we offer plenty of opportunities for each
participant to tailor the programme to
his or her own needs. One example: the
portfolio of electives in our programme
is extremely broad; each participant can
choose from a list of more than 50 electives in all areas of management and
business. What also makes us special is
our learning approach: we foster a collaborative, human-centered approach in our
programme, which is highly appreciated
by our participants. Finally, I think that
we also have the right balance between
offering a traditional Executive MBA education on the one hand and introducing
innovative elements every year on the
other hand.
What is the main characteristic
of Executive MBA participants?
Valérie Madon: Our participants have an
average age of 37. They are all successful in
their job, they are ambitious and they wish
to invest in their career. But it is so good to
see that "success", "ambition" and "career"
can have very different meanings. Hence,
we do not wish to produce "clones", but
help participants on their individual career
path.
What are the innovations
in the programme?
Stefan Schmid: From 2018 onwards,
all participants in all tracks will attend
a new core course in Entrepreneurship
