30 anniversary

On June 8, nearly 70% of the EAP class of 1983 met in Paris to celebrate their
30th anniversary. Some came especially from the US, Russia, Germany, UK,
Belgium, Italy and all parts of France… just for the pleasure of meeting again!
Most of us hadn’t seen each other for a long time, some even for 30 years!
A little background info
In 1980, when we started at the EAP, we were
a small team of 63 students coming from France,
Belgium, The Netherlands, United-Kingdom,
Germany, Denmark, Italy and Greece. We spent all
three years together, successively in Paris, Oxford
and Düsseldorf, also doing a three-month internship
each year in another town in each country. Three
magic years attending a business school that was
atypical and unconventional at the time. It was a
huge leap into three different cultures, whereas we
were already a multicultural group of students. Just
imagine the kind of flexibility and adaptability this
situation called for, along with a strong sense of
solidarity and humor!
Organizing the party

How it all started
The three of us, Anne, Anne-Catherine and
Dominique, met for dinner in November 2012.
Anne and Anne-Catherine hadn’t seen each other
for nearly 30 years! Dominique reminded us that
2013 would actually mark the 30-year point since
our graduation and said «why don’t we try to organize something?» We were all enthusiastic about
the idea and immediately set up an organizing
committee. Anne took the lead, assuming her delegate role, and Anne-Catherine fed us during our
numerous meetings. We had fun evenings, were
pretty well organized and had a leader who kept us
in line while listening to and respecting everyone’s
wishes, suggestions and sensibility. We were motivated by a real desire to create the best possible
conditions for the class reunion with as much
sincerity and authenticity as possible, focused on
remembering the tremendous experience we had
had at the EAP.

We decided to organize the event as a kind of
family party, a «just like at home» one, gathering
people who had spent not only happy but also
challenging times together. That’s why we chose
not to invite our fellow ESCP students of the class
of ’83. We also needed to find a comfortable place
that would allow us to feel at home. The owners of
the restaurant l’Escargot, one of the oldest bistros
in Paris, accepted to privatize their premises just
for us, which was terrific!
One of our biggest challenges was re-contacting
each class member and the fact is that we had
lost track of most of them. We three weren’t the
best members of the Alumni Association either…
Anne put a lot of energy into getting us involved in
a kind of big «man/woman hunt». We succeeded
in finding nearly everyone, which was not an easy
task. We were also sad to learn that some of our
class members had passed away since our student days.
Regular updates were sent out by Anne to keep
the flame burning, announce the newcomers and
keep everyone posted on how the organization
work was progressing.
