Expand your
network!

I started my career in the Consumer Goods and Retail sectors,
and pursued, since year 2000, in the field of digital technologies
applied to these verticals. As a convinced networker, I naturally
became delegate of the ESCP Europe Alumni professional
groups «Digital & Business» and «Marketing & Retail» and also
manage our alumni communities on the online Professional
Networks.

Invited to join LinkedIn soon after its creation in
2003 by my American colleagues of the Silicon
Valley Internet startup for which I was working in
Europe, I was thus faced to the social networks
phenomenon since their emergence. I foresaw
their potential interest for communities’ animation,
online as well as offline. As an early adopter, I
have advocated and acted for the consolidation
of the 27 ESCP Europe groups which had spontaneously emerged on LinkedIn since 2003, and
for the sponsorship by our Alumni Association of
an official ESCP Europe group on each of the 3
main networks: LinkedIn, Viadeo, and Xing.
Today
Today, our 15 000 members LinkedIn ESCP
Europe community gathers more than half of
our graduates. It is the number one in size and
dynamism, ahead of all French Universities and
«Grandes Écoles» groups and the fifth in Europe
(only preceded by 4 Dutch campus).
The combination of a common subject, a critical
mass of members, a unifying sponsor and active
moderators explain the success of our community.
However, if a newly published scoring of French
Management Schools on the Web recently confirmed that ESCP Europe is «the business school
that has the most members in its groups on social
networks», we can still progress for our groups’
animation and internationalization.
Our first 9 groups on Marketing, Finance,
Consulting, Entrepreneurship, Retail, Digital,
Sales, MBA and North America show a strong

dynamism. They add up to 700 or 1 700
members and generate 15 to 25 monthly
on-line debates.
Tomorrow
To further strengthen our ESCP Europe
community leadership and its subgroups
and above all to give them their full efficiency and power in the interest of us all,
each of us can perform 3 simple and decisive actions for our common success:
First, register on LinkedIn. If you have
not already done so, do it first for simple
common sense, for this site is now universally recognized as an essential career development tool. Then, make sure
to locate and connect with your fellow
Alumni, and then invite them to join our
ESCP Europe community.
Finally, meet the demand of our Association,
in the person of Eva MOLLAT DU JOURDIN
(MSC 98), our Network Manager, who is
looking for moderators for our 21 sub-group.
Those moderators will, ideally have an international profile and the objective to recruit all our
concerned comrades, to initiate and facilitate
discussions and moderate exchanges. It won’t
cost you anything and may on the contrary
reward you greatly, to expand your network,
share your expertise and finally exchange with
your peers on common professional concerns.
So let’s all work our network, online, and
possibly face to face too!
