From Shanghai to Paris
Vikki is from China and she is today a new student on the campus of ESCP Europe. She explains her choices.
What did you do previously and why did you decide to study in ESCP Europe? I was studying in Shanghai in one of the best universities in China. I was in the double degree program: ESCP Europe/Tongji University. When I was thinking about doing a master in France, my friend who is studying in the LSE (London School of Economics and Political Science) told me that the best and well-known “Grande École” in France was : “ESCP Europe”. Can you describe your first days in Paris? I immediately fell in love with Paris when I arrived in the city center at 8am!!!! Everything was so beautiful, the smell of baguette and croissant in the boulangerie was so good!! I had intensive French classes and some pre-requisite courses in the first several days. It was actually quite intensive, I had class almost every day from 9am to 6pm. I can feel the teaching quality is good and the professors are all nice, patient and professional. And ESCP Europe is very thoughtful to give us the session of intensive French, it helped us a lot to get used to French and life in France! By the way, I love the campus in Paris, the location is convenient and the buildings are artistic!! How did you manage to make yourself feel at home here? I think the best way is to be engaged with the school life and make many friends here! Try to be open-minded and you will easily meet many nice classmates! You will feel homey if you have friends in school and you will like your courses. Because, in that way, you don’t feel bored! What are the main differences between your past experiences in your former University and ESCP Europe? The biggest difference I have noticed is that ESCP Europe has more multicultural atmosphere, the students are a mix group with different countries and past educational backgrounds. Also the activities organized by the students are more creative and fun here. Do you want to work in Europe later or are you only enjoying the opportunity of studying in a world-known business school, moreover abroad? I would like to work in Europe later, especially in France, because now I am trying to get to know France, but France has such a deep and extraordinary culture that I need more time to explore it. Moreover, I also want to experience the working environment here which is so different from China and other countries. In your opinion, why are the multicultural exchanges like in ESCP Europe fundamental for your education? It teaches me how to work and to hang out with the people from the different cultural and educational backgrounds. It can be useful for my future career and also meaningful in my life experience. ●
