Alumni of the Year 2011: an ESCP Europe rising star

Hi Clementine, can you tell me a bit about yourself, your career progression, how ESCP Europe fitted in with this? Long before graduating from ESCP Europe in 2004, I was already determined to embrace an international career mixing my passion for Marketing and Business Development. Thanks to the academic programme on the Paris campus and enriching internship experiences in France and in the States, I decided to pursue my career within fast growing companies driven by inspiring and successful entrepreneurs. How did you find your new job in The Organic Pharmacy? I challenged the ESCP Europe network via the local campus to get the best advice and tools to find the right opportunity and continue my career in the luxury cosmetics and spa industry. After some months, I took the direction of Marketing at The Organic Pharmacy, world leader in the luxury organic health and beauty arena. What did you do there? With my team, The Organic Pharmacy opened its 7th flagship store. I also developed a strong digital marketing plan and had amazing results with online sales. Have you time to act for the ESCP Europe community? I have created internship opportunities at The Organic Pharmacy and also hired a student from ESCP Europe. I also started collaboration with ESCP Challenges, the association I used to be President of while studying in Paris, for a mission on the French market. What are your main qualities? With a solid academic background and 7 years of Marketing experience offline and online in the Luxury Beauty Industry, within head offices and international subsidiaries, different distribution channels (luxury department stores, flagship retail stores, high end pharmacies, five star hotels and spas around the world) and for the 3 main categories of beauty products (skincare, makeup and fragrance), I have developed skills in brand management, product development, international operational marketing as well as direct marketing, digital and social media and PR. What is your plan for 2012? A new project? I have just left The Organic Pharmacy to take on a new challenge and focus even more on the e-commerce side of our business. With customers shifting online and the digital landscape offering cost-effective opportunities to further engage brands with their audience and drive significant measurable results, I can see major and very exciting opportunities online. A message for the ESCP community? Create opportunities where they don’t necessarily exist at the beginning, be focus, ambitious, determined, creative and tenacious. l

Such a program! Which were the chosen companies and what did you do there? First, Caudalie, the world famous cosmetics and spa brand. I accompanied the international development with the creation of subsidiaries in Italy, Spain and Germany. I then got the opportunity to become Brand Manager. Within 2 years you successfully launched 2 product lines internationally. How did you do that so quickly? It was a long journey and an incredibly enriching venture. The team was quite small at that time which made the decision process easier and shorter. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit I enjoyed working directly with the founders and managing directors. It required hard work, pragmatism and efficiency to deliver, shine and exceed the challenge. I loved this fantastic work environment where everyone is encouraged to contribute and each individual can, and does impact the business. Why did you relocate in London? In 2009, I relocated in London following my husband with my two children. How did you accept the break in such a successful career? After the year I spent working for Pierre Fabre in Los Angeles before I completed my degree at ESCP Europe, I knew I would start my career in France but relocate after a few years. London came out thanks to my husband. I plan to stay here for a few years and then probably relocate to Hong Kong or Singapore.
