When the ICP becomes a reality: a look at the European Executive MBA Experience

Consider these three statements. What can they possibly have in common?
l An idea started taking shape mid-2007 in the mind of an international marketing executive in the telecoms industry: can coaching services by delivered over Smartphones?

What is the common thread? All 3 of these projects became reality thanks to the work carried out by International Consulting Project (ICP) teams within the framework of the European Executive MBA programme. The International Consulting Project is the keystone of the learning experience as it is the «glue» that consolidates the concepts and methodologies presented during the programme. The ICP is designed to provide participants with a collaborative, multi-disciplinary and often intercultural work experience on a real-life strategic challenge. In groups, participants perform an in-depth analysis of a situation or an issue faced by a company and make recommendations for implementable actions. Far from being a theoretical exercise, the ICP gives people the opportunity to bring their ideas to life.

An operations and lean six sigma director is given the challenge to improve product line profitability in a global engineering and manufacturing company. Having become acutely aware of the dire situation of many women and children worldwide, a project director in the humanitarian sector is inspired by 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus’s microfinance initiatives.

Justin DERBYSHIRE (MBA 09) started his European Executive MBA programme in january 2008 with a specific objective in mind: develop the know-how, methodology and contacts to start his own company. «The ICP was my main project during the MBA, in order to launch what is now me+my mobile», Justin says. «We are just starting to hit the market, so the strategy developed in the ICP being implemented as we speak, with financing deadlines coming closer and investor pitches looming». me+my mobile develops Smartphone applications for B2B customers, with a focus on coaching and education. «Help from the alumni network has been amazingly precious: people making introductions, mentioning the project to new contacts, and providing press visibility».
