Du goût… et des couleurs MICHEL BARNIER (72) Produire plus et mieux, développer les spécificités du modèle agricole européen, tels sont les objectifs défendus par Michel BARNIER, homme politique de convictions, aujourd’hui Ministre de l’Agriculture et de la Pêche. Pourquoi l’homme politique que vous êtes a-t-il accepté, en 2006, de devenir vice-président de Mérieux Alliance, chargé du développement international ? Pourquoi ce passage du public au privé ? Tout au long de mon engagement public, j’ai été très attentif à l’entreprise. Aujourd’hui, la politique devient plus économique, moins idéologique, et on ne peut pas faire de la politique sans s’intéresser aux entreprises, aux hommes et aux femmes qui y travaillent. En 2005, après avoir quitté le gouvernement, j’étais disponible et Alain Mérieux, un grand patron que je respecte, m’a demandé de m’occuper du développement international de son groupe. C’était une belle occasion à saisir pour renforcer encore mon expertise à l’international puisque j’avais été Commissaire à Bruxelles, Ministre des Affaires européennes et Ministre des Affaires étrangères. Ce fut passionnant. J’ai appris beaucoup de choses et ai surtout été frappé par l’attention portée aux personnes au sein de ce groupe privé, tant par le dialogue que par la motivation. C’est la raison pour laquelle aujourd’hui, de retour dans le public, je vais prochainement lancer, au sein du Ministère, une convention du management car j’estime que, dans le public comme dans le privé, les retombées de tels actes ne peuvent être que bénéfiques. Public, Privé… De quel côté finalement votre cœur balance ? Je n’exclus pas plus tard de retourner dans le privé et en même temps, je reste fondamentalement un homme politique, intéressé par l’entreprise. Je suis un des premiers Ministres de l’Agriculture à avoir au Ministère un conseiller venant du privé, chargé des relations avec les entreprises. Je passe donc également du temps à être le Ministre du Commerce Extérieur agricole ou agroalimentaire. Je participais récemment par exemple, à Kiev, en Ukraine, à un salon agroalimentaire, avec 55 chefs d’entreprises françaises pour voir ©Xavier Remongin/Min.Agri.Fr ESCP-EAP mag n°117…mars 2008
